Neighbors Helping Neighbors in Need!

Many thanks to everyone who helped us Fill the Truck with Food for Alive and to those who donated their new or gently used books for the Friends of Barrett Branch Library.

Bundle up Campaign

Our neighbors continue to drop off donations.

Many thanks to the vendors of the Old Town North Farmers’ Markets and Hank’s Oyster Bar for ensuring that none of the produce from local farms or other food items sold at the Old Town North Farmers’ and Artisans’ Market goes to waste.

At the end of the Sunday Markets, volunteers from the Old Town North Community Partnership and Volunteer Alexandria drop off produce and other food items that won’t be carried over to the next market with our friends at Hank’s Oyster Bar. Since the beginning of the year, over a half ton of fresh produce has been collected and donated to the ALIVE food hubs!  

The produce and other food items are stored in a refrigerator at Hank’s until they can be picked up by the Alive team and taken directly to one of the ALIVE Food Hubs in Alexandria.
 
Many of the vendors and volunteers at the Old Town North Market are also involved in additional efforts to support those in need within the community.   

Leigh of Common Hearth regularly bakes and donates bread to Carpenters Shelter and other local nonprofits, and Shane of The Rainbow Spoon donates to Lasagna Love.

What’s New At The Old Town North Farmers and Artisans Market?

We hope everyone had a peaceful weekend, April 4th and 6th, and are looking forward to seeing all of our loyal fans back at the market on April 12th.

  • The Thursday Market, we hope to reopen in April. We may have pushed the date back to early May, given new construction updates from Carr Companies. We will keep everyone posted. Ideally, the Soft Open will still be on April 23rd, and the Grand Opening will be on April 30th.
  • Thursday Market Hours: 3:00 pm-7:00 pm
  • Sunday Market Hours: 9:00 am-1:00 pm
  • Compost drop-off: 9:00 am-1:00 pm

Art Hildebrand

DECEMBER Look Ahead Schedule

At 425 Montgomery, the construction continues to progress on schedule.  Our first apartments are planned to be completed by the end of 2026. 

During the month of December, the next phase of the building structure will commence as the placement of structural concrete has been completed. In this next construction phase, the building transitions from a concrete structure to a wood framed structure. First the elevator towers will be erected out of concrete masonry units (CMU), followed by the commencement of the wood and metal framing operations which will continue over the next few months. Along the building perimeter, excavation will take place to allow access to install the remaining below-grade waterproofing and allow the transition to above-grade waterproofing.  Virginia American Water will continue its waterline replacement project along North Pitt Street. The construction drive lane along Montgomery Street will remain in use to facilitate the delivery of building materials to the site. Additionally, in December, the excavation and placement of the Storm Water Management Vault will take place.

Potomac River Generating Station (PRGS) Redevelopment

Updates from our friends at TideLock August 27th

The Tidelock construction update is as follows:

  • Exterior work is continuing on the facade and we are doing unit finishes on the interior. The Sales Center will open and we will start taking formal reservations and writing sales contracts on the condos in September.
  • Exterior work on the building is progressing and most of it should be completed in the next 2-3 months. We will be launching our condo sales center just after Labor Day and will be writing contracts for condo purchases starting then. Urban Pace will be handling the sales and marketing for the condos. The overall project is scheduled for completion around the end of the first quarter 2026, so only about eight months to go! The apartment will be open for new residents a few weeks after the condo building is completed, with pre-leasing of apartments to start after January 1.
