Memorial to Honor Lives Lost on January 29th, 2025
Virginia Congress member Don Beyer and Alexandria City Mayor Alyia Gaskins have recently announced plans for a permanent memorial to the victims of the mid-air collision over the Potomac on January 29th, 2025. The Memorial will be placed in the north-east section of Rivergate Park in Old Town North, and will provide a place of quiet reflection and remembrance .The Old Town North Community Partnership has reached out to both Congressman Beyer’s and Mayor Gaskin’s offices in support of the Memorial.
National Park Service Old Town North EA Public Scoping Meeting - George Washington Memorial Parkway and Mount Vernon Trail Improvements
Monday. January 12th, the National Park Service (NPS ) and HRP Group hosted a meeting to discuss plans for trail, safety, and waterfront improvements in connection with the HRP ALX project ( power plant redevelopment), including proposed improvements to the Mount Vernon Trail and Potomac River Access, transportation and safety upgrades, and public space integration. NPS is conducting an environmental assessment to evaluate the potential impacts of the proposed improvements and gather public input.
