Alexandria Celebrates Women

Let’s Honor One Of Alexandria’s Trailblazers!

The City of Alexandria’s ongoing renovation of City Hall and Market Square presents a meaningful opportunity to honor one of our community’s most impactful leaders and trailblazers — Patricia “Patsy” Ticer, Alexandria’s first female mayor and former Virginia state senator.

Patsy Ticer served three terms on City Council in the 1980s before making history in 1991 as the City’s first female mayor. A true consensus builder, she championed early childhood development, education, and affordable housing. She served four terms in the Virginia state Senate, advocating for health care, social services, and the environment.

Market Square is a vibrant gathering place for both residents and visitors. Naming this space after Patsy Ticer would honor her deep roots in Alexandria and her lifelong dedication to public service.

Please consider signing this petition to urge the City to name Market Square at City Hall in honor of Patsy Ticer. This tribute will celebrate her legacy and inspire generations to serve their community with the same passion, integrity and commitment.

Having trouble finding parking?

Learn more about a new parking task force initiative spearheaded by NOTICe, with support from other local organizations, including the Old Town North Community Partnership.

Are you or your guests having trouble finding parking places in OTN these days? If you are a small business, are your customers complaining about how hard it is to find parking?

Construction workers who are supposed to park in designated garages are parking instead on streets with unrestricted parking. The fault, it seems, is not so much with the workers themselves as with their employers who are either failing to provide spaces in garages or failing to enforce the rules that their workers park there.

NOTICe and the Old Town Community Partnership have formed a parking task force to investigate the problem, and are working with the city and construction companies to resolve it. Please let us know about your experience with a parking problem. Email: notice.communications@gmail.com
